I don't really know much about cosmetics, but I do know the allure of a nice package. Kyle got me a few Chanel items for our anniversary, and now I'm feeling quite Chanel obsessed. No matter the product, there's something irresistible about that name, in it's beautiful capital type. Maybe it's just the history of chanel and all the lovely faces that wear it. The little dior 'garden clutch' is a gift from my mom for my birthday. The pallet inside is nice, but the outside is just perfect. What do you find irresistibly pretty?

hello! My favorite month has come and gone. Christmas, my birthday (I turned 23), and new years...december is definitely the best month there is. And even better, mine and Kyle's anniversary is next week! I feel badly for him because he has to find so many gifts in such a sort amount of time...but so far so good (like that banner and perfect kitten calendar from catbird).

A few of you asked if I dyed my hair...I did! It was ombre for a few months but now it's back to normal, a little better for the cold winter. I can't wait for december and a little break.

School has been pretty busy, as it's my last year ever.

Spending time working on projects, bundling up for the new cold weather, and listening much to the newer Elected album (which I would almost advise against buying the physical album because the images are so repulsive and make me nauseous when I have to flip it over, but the songs are so beautiful).

I wish it were true
especially if they were belugas.
We only saw one chipmunk and a bunch of rocks, and statues of norwegians.
There's such great history there, but we didn't find leif erikson's sword or anything exciting like that.
We did however find the best caramels and the smoothest sitting rocks in existence.

Getting inspiration from these lovely ladies, as I'm missing my long hair. I have to remind myself of how insanely thick my hair is and how hot I would be had I not cut it.
Who do you think wears it best? Audrey looks beautiful no matter what, especially with short hair, but I've always loved Chantal Goya's cut.

Today felt like the first true day of summer, it's hard to believe summer is already half way over. Kyle and I both had the day off, and we were able to spend it doing all kinds of summery things. Walking around lake calhoun, watching sailboats, having the most delicious breakfast and dinner, finding baby rabbits, eating gelato, and stumbling upon the perfect summer festival, Tour de Fat (which was the coolest thing ever). Then we came home to find fireworks outside our window.

Nadinoo's lula's untie me top is by far my new favorite garment. It's the perfect cut for summer, with the most adorable bow and buttons, but I'll definitely be wearing it year-round. The dress version is equally as perfect.

Kyle had this dress for me as a surprise a few nights ago! It perfectly matches the dessert I had made.
To make that delicious treat, it's very simple...

mix half a tub of ricotta with half a cup powdered sugar,
one tablespoon vanilla, one tablespoonish cinnamon,
and the juice from two large strawberries.
Mix it all together until smooth, add extra of whatever you find necessary to make it tastier.
Spoon into sponge cups, and add sliced strawberries and blackberries!
Let me know if you try it.

Things have been pretty busy since getting home from Portland. Lots of collaborations and commissions are underway, including something sweet with the always wonderful nadinoo (I'm still waiting for the perfect day to wear my lula's untie me top!), Audrey Grace Boutique, and my amazing friend emily of Tender Cuts.

I also had the pleasure of meeting the adorable Vanessa of The Velvet Bird! She's so sweet and perfectly southern sounding, and it turns out we know some of the same people! Check out her blog if you haven't.

It's very humid, the weather man said it's worse humidity than the amazon. Hard to believe for a place that's frozen 9 months of the year.

Visiting Portland was a really love trip, as expected. We flew to Seattle then took the train from there to portland, which was a really beautiful ride. Unfortunately it started to storm and became dark, so we couldn't take many photos. We've decided that we'll take a train over a plane any day. We met my new niece, had voo doo donuts, saw the farmers market, visited lots and lots of nice shops, and spent time with my brother and nephew.
Luckily my job can be done practically anywhere, so when kyle's done with his filmmaking BFA, we have lots of nice options for places to move. I'd say portland is in the tops of our list.

We went home for a few days to see family and Madison's adorable new baby. It makes me want a little girl too hee hee. Kansas City felt like paradise with the sun always shinning and familiar places as beautiful as ever. We came back to freezing weather, but a nice architecture in helsinki show.

I have exciting news-- my etsy shop is opening this sunday (promise!)! I had issues the first time it opened forever ago, not having enough time to make what I wanted to sell. Now that it's summer, I've been working working working to build a nice little inventory, ready for all of you! a book I finished last month. Waldeinsamkeit is the german word for "the feeling of being alone in the woods". Interesting that we don't have a word for that in english!
It took forever for me to find that little music box. I installed in into a cheap wooden box, which holds the book. Watch the video to hear the little song.

the blizzard is so bad today, work got canceled! a nice little surprise for my first weekend of winter break.

i've lost count of all the people i've seen stuck in the snow so far this morning. it's fun to see strangers helping strangers, giving high fives of success and huddling together to shield the wind.
poor kyle has to walk home from work while i stay in and wrap christmas gifts/make paper people.
we actually cheated a bit last night and each opened up one gift (woops!).

I'm really happy with how it came out, being my first case binding. It's sweet and sad to me, the things you do and places you go while you're little. Do you remember places like these?

I saw Sufjan last weekend. What an inspiring show! All I wanted was for him to play seven swans, and that's what he opened with. It was so beautiful that I couldn't help but get tears in my eyes. The way he talks about the Lord is so lovely and perfect. For my next project, I'm thinking of making a set of seven books with the lyrics spread out in them. I don't know if I'm up for seven books, but it sounds nice to me.

being a busy worker bee making new books. I finished my photo book mentioned in the previous post, from lulu.com. There are a few things I need to add but will show it to you very soon. I also just received the loveliest shoes ever, purchased from etsy.
Kyle and I saw a really beautiful film on his birthday last week, called never let me go. They kept these memory boxes of little special objects collected through their lives. The last image is from a collage book I'm working on, sort of inspired by those boxes. Things kept and happening in a little golden house. What kind of things do you think would happen in a golden house?

The top photo booth images are from the state fair today, the first being of kyle and I and the second of our friends bryant and hannah. All other photographs are from a bundle of 300 we got from an antique shop. I love when they have writings on the back, especially when it's more than just names. I was thinking of making a small book that would feature the backs of old photos with writing on them, then the front side of the images in the back of the book. Or maybe they'd be side by side, the front and back of the photographs. Would you be interested in this sort of book?

Chicago was marvelous! Our friends Meg and Brad showed us lots of lovely places, including a really delicious bakery, navy pier, and the best ice cream place of all time, iCream. It was nice to take a trip before the start of school, which was today. I feel totally unprepared for this semester, because summer seems to have gone by too quickly.

Has anyone made a book with lulu or blurb? I have a class dedicated to making a book through one of those publishing sites, but I can't think of what to do yet. I wish perfect ideas could just float into my mind this semester, and for forever.
I'm trying not to get too stressed out already. Listening to the new sufjan album and looking forward to hearing his glorious voice in person, this october.

wow, sorry it's been an entire month without a post! Many things have happened since, mostly still being very busy. I've been giving kyle photo lessons, he took the one of me, the second, and the last photograph of a nice puggle we met. Today, photo lessons continue! We stocked up on infinite rolls of film, so, many more pictures to come.

a few nights ago I saw two of my very favorite bands, El Perro Del Mar and Taken By Trees. It was one of the best shows I ever seen.. I definitely recommend seeing them. It fueled my desire to study in Stockholm even more. I kind of felt like kindred spirits with the girl from Taken By Trees. She had the neatest video in the background, which included pakistani life and the sweetest red panda.
One of my brothers is having an art opening event in Portland, and is having a call for art to hang at the show. Just go to this site, make your lovely image on the provided template, and then email it back. Easy as pie!

Sorry for the lack of posts and comments, I haven't had internet for a while and have been so so busy with school. I'm on a break right now, between modeling for a photo shoot and fashion show tonight. I have a huge braid that's pretty fun to swing around, and I'm pretty excited for the show.

I'm planning to make a book of people with animals, like in my linocut pictured above. I need some fun name ideas! What are your pets named?

I want to do some sort of give away, but I'm not sure what to give. Maybe an embroidery?

Tomorrow, second semester of school begins. Today, I want to do anything/everything relaxing before becoming overwhelmed in classwork.
I'm thinking book reading, magazine page flipping, tea sipping, and letter writing.
Speaking of letter writing, the one shown in the polaroid above was written to Eleanor Roosevelt from my grandfather's first wife in 1943. The opening paragraph says:
" Dear Madam:
During these busy times, it is with much reluctance that I approach you upon a personal matter of such volume, but believing that you, like myself, feel that each and every American citizen is entitled to justice (if need be, tempered with mercy) I am taking the liberty of inquiring if something cannot be done about the case which I shall attempt to describe and which attached photostats cover, subject shown above."
My grandfather spent his whole life writing to the government, trying to get his named cleared from something he didn't do (it would really make a marvelous film!). I love that people used to actually get replies from the president or first lady, like my grandfather did. Today it seems that we're so far detached from our president, I'd never in a million years expect a handwritten reply, or for my letter to even be read. But I guess one could never know!

wowowowow it's been ages since my last post! I apologize but this past week was my last for the school semester, so I've been crazy busy with final projects. Today is one of the best days of the year, being the beginning of winter break.
I have so many new projects, I don't know where to begin posting! I'm so tired though and have to get up early, so I'll just show you one of my newest projects for now:

This is a dress I made for my Lithography final, made from crepe paper with lithography print. It's wearable!, but pretty difficult to move around in without it tearing.

These are some pages from a book I created of a made up person (I named her Ruby Swanson), who (fictionally) made this scrapbook in the 1930's-40's. I used found photographs and added text, ribbons, etc. I'm pretty pleased with the result! Also, my new header is my most recent lithograph using photo plates and three colors.
The 40's is such a fascinating decade to me historically. I wish that we still had as much love for our country as americans did then, and people still went dancing instead of grinding for fun. The women of that time must have been so brave, with their dashing boyfriends and such going to war. It certainly must have made everyone appreciate and cherish each other much more.

While getting supplies for this project, I saw the cutest paper toothfairy costume hat, made in the 1920's...I just had to make my own.

I'm making a delicious treat to bring to kyle's grandma's house for Thanksgiving, and it has to be perfect so we can prove ourselves as not being babies haha.
I've always loved a pumpkin roll because that's what my mom made every year, so I'm thinking of making that, although our kitchen it so small it might be difficult. I'm also thinking about making truffles! Who doesn't love those?

burr burr burr burr burr. Minneapolis is cold land, USA.
Last weekend I flew to Portland, OR and saw some family who are much too far away. The town is so wonderful and the weather was nearly perfect...I wish it was closer.
My brother showed me this really neat huge, huge book store. It's the largest in America, taking up six blocks! I bought Silent World by Jaques Cousteau, and touched some pretty pricey reads. Kyle would have gone craaazy.

what's your favorite town? I haven't been to many so I don't have a lot of choices.
I love kansas city, because it's my home...but portland fantastic. Oh and DC is really pretty, too.
I think if I could visit more towns, I think I'd really love smaller towns in france.

I'm making a little keepsake/scrapbook for my Ideation & Process class of things that I want to remember when I'm older. I'm not planning on losing my memory, but I think it'll be nice to have this book to look back on and see what I was like. I wish my mom would have kept a book like this, because it's always so much fun to see old photos and interests of those who lived in a different time than yourself.

Kyle and I went to KC for Madison's adorable wedding! It was my first time being a bridesmaid and I was so afraid I'd hysterically cry the whole time, but I did much better than expected haha. Madison's been my friend for 5 years, and it was the best feeling to see her so happy with her new husband. Seeing them and my other friends there who are either engaged or married made me appreciate my handsome husband even more.

I'm getting really tired of being criticized for being married young. It seems that everyone has an opinion about it, and more often than not, it's extremely negative. Obviously it's for some people, and not for others...but I don't understand why those who it's not for feel the need to assume that those who married young did it for immature or unrealistic reasons.

God loves marriage, and put no restrictions on age. People say that you should wait so you can experience life, but what "experiencing life" to people nowadays is drinking and acting ridiculous. No, I can't run around and sleep with college boys or go party every night. Instead, I get to come home to the most dashing boy on the planet, who has the best heart ever. It's not easy being a wife, full time student, far away from home, working, and only being 20...but things don't always have to be easy. You have to work and juggle things to get what you want, and this is exactly what I want. Everyone has different priorities and morals, and everyone has a perfect timing for marriage. Some people never get married, and that's fiiinnee. For ME, it was January 11, 2008. We didn't choose to wait until the "appropriate age." We'll have our 10 year anniversary when we're only 29, and it's perfect that way.

I know people will always have an issue with young marriage, just like they do about people "waiting too long". But seriously, look at my husband. He's so awesome and will be forever.

now we're going to go watch a movie in our bed.

I just love jackalopes. Kyle and I stopped at the wonderous Wall Drug on the way home from
Spearfish yesterday, and picked up a cute little jackalope pal. He's a bank, too!

Today I had a photo shoot with a team from Fargo, and got to wear neat French Connection,
BB Dakota, and bcbg. I was really nervous for it, but I'm really happy with how it went
and can't wait to see the photos.

Recently I've been thinking that maybe photo isn't my thing anymore. I was set on getting my
BFA in Photography from MCAD, buuuut I don't know if I really see myself having a lot of passion for it anymore. I wish there was an "embroider cute little people" major..or I especially
wish that MCAD had Fibers. Part of me just wants to switch over to the University of Minnesota and get a BFA in art in general, and minor in French (which if you haven't noticed already, I absolutely adore). I just want to be an elementary art teacher, and sell my personal work over the summer, so I really could major in anything. Oohhh the possibilities!

I love their clothes so much but can never afford them, until I went in to peak at

I really don't understand why people hate God so much.
Like Anne Graham said, we've been pushing him out of lives for years and when things start to get bad, we ask "if God's so good, why isn't he fixing everything?"
hmmm, I wonder.
Some of my best friends who used to be Christians, or at least civil about the existence of God, now don't just disbelieve, but just flat out "hate" Him.
Where is this coming from?

People say that Christians try to shove their beliefs down everyone's throats, but it's really just the opposite.
Now, you have to claim to be atheist of some obscure sect of Eastern religion to be cool.

So, why isn't it cool to be Christian? I haven't learned anything crude on indecent from the Bible. I've learned to love everybody whether they believe in God or not, and strive to be like Jesus. What did He ever do that's so wrong? We've all had those annoying, irritating experiences with people who CLAIM to be "Christians"..those people who always wear shirts that say "God's Princess" or something along those lines, who tell you you're going to hell, who go to church on sundays and cry their eyes out, and then act like jerks every other day of the week.
Those people are NOT an accurate representation of God's people. The Church is what is corrupt- not God.

I don't want to have to hide the fact that I believe in God, because it'll hurt my coolness status..
and I wish other people didn't either.

Anyway, Kyle's working with the History Channel for some fancy commercial all day, and I'm moving all of our stuff to our new apartment. We have too much stuff.

I've had a really lovely summer break so far.
A couple of days ago, Kyle and I went to the most delicious French restaurant called Salut.
The decor was great annnnd they put adorable french flags in your food! C'est super-cool!

Today we went to church with Sarah, and then went to feed the squirrels and birds at Loring Park...which is always hilariously fun.
I'm working on my first real embroidery today...embroidery hoop and all! I've been planning on this being my summer hobby, and I'm already in love with it.

OH and i'm finally mailing letters to eeevveryone I said I was going to...i promise, they're coming!

apparently I enjoyed it enough though, because kyle and I have decided to stay here!

wednesday- Focus on Film: The Western 9:30-12:00, Intro to Film Making (although I think i'm going to change this) 1:00-6:00
thursday- Color Photography (I'm on the wait list though) 1:00-6:00, French for Art 6:30-9
friday- Sophomore Serminar 9-10:30, Ideation and Process 1-6

ahhhh, summer feels so good. I know i'm going to be visiting kc a lot, but I really hope my friends come visit here too. come while it's still warm in minnesota!

so, i've been going back and forth back and forth on where to live. When kyle and i first moved to minneapolis, i thought i hated it...but really, that was just because it was somewhere new and different and scary. buuut now i see all the wonders of minneapolis; it's SAFE, it's CLEAN.....and that's all i really care about. Mostly, safety though, which is why i'm afraid to move back to Kansas City. Our plans were to move to kc june first, and i'd go to the kc art institute, which is a really wonderful school. It's cheaper, it's familiar, my friends and family live there, but lately i've just been really worried about being safe. In minneapolis you can go outside in the dark by yourself (in lots of places), you can ride the public transportation alone, and there are lots of 'normal' people out to protect you when someone freaky approaches. .buuut, the apartments are a lot more expensive, and so is MCAD.
In kc, i can get my BFA in photography AND fibers, and save a lot of money.
but if i'm going to be constantly afraid of my safety (my mom was nearly murdered there, and people are shot or stabbed everyday) theennn I don't know if it's worth it. I grew up in KC, so I know it's not all bad. It's just that i've lived somewhere so safe for a year, it's going to be hard to adjust again.

uuggghhhh growing up and deciding things is so hard.

Springbreak 2009 is over. Kyle and I traveled to his parent's home in this wee awesome town called Spearfish. I haven't made real prints of my photos from there yet, but it's so so beautiful and it was wonderful to get out of the city for a few days.
We didn't really do much because there was a blizzard while we were there (we brought the minnesota cold curse with us!) but we did end up going to see Devil's Tower in wyoming (click on the negatives up there and you can see a larger image of it), which is this big rock formation? I think it's rock...or mountain...or something. Kyle's dad said it used to be the inside of a volcano but i'm not sure if that was a joke or not.
There were deer eeeveerrrywhere and I wanted to lure one in with some sugar cubes or something soooooo bad. I'm hoping so much i got some good photos of them and will post them as soon as i find out!

Meg from 1918 vintage is coming here this weekend to take some photos aaand it's Easter on sunday! I'm very excited for the weekend despite my piles of homework to do. (:
I hope you all get lots of candy.

weekend, paris, st paul

Kyle and I watched Weekend (from 1967) last week, and Paris 36 (i'm not sure if this is out in the states yet, it was a pre-screening and the actress and director were there!) a couple of nights ago. Two very different films definitely worth seeing.
Weekend is crazy to explain so i'm not even going to try.
Paris 36 is about a group of people who lose their beloved music hall and reopen and make it a success with lots of interesting acts. I don't know how to explain it without making it sound awful because i typically hate musicals. This isn't a musical though...it's a film that has singing haha. Just go see it (:

Kyle and I also took a trip to St.Paul for the first time! Funny that we live in the "twin cities" but hadn't been over to the other side until last saturday. We went to a delicious pastry shop called A Piece of Cake. The ad we saw for it said "do you know someone who loves ribbons, bows, kitties, ballerinas?" and i said YES YES ME. The shop didn't have any of that stuff so i was a little disappointed but i had one of the best cupcakes of my life. I checked out the College of Visual Arts (which is in a lovely mansion surrounded by the largest preserved victorian neighborhood in the country ooo!) buut i'm fairly positive i won't apply because we still don't know where to live!. It's looking like we're moving back to kansas city. probably. maybe.

I came home monday (my worst day of the week because of my dumb drawing class) and found that lovely, enormous I love you note on the kitchen wall! My husband is adorable.

Mondays and tuesdays are noooooooooo fun at all for me. Monday, I have drawing from 1-6 and it's a horrible experience for many reasons..but mostly I hate having to carry a huge portfolio bag full of stuff, a huge drawing board, a very very huge newsprint pad, and other various things from my apartment to car, then from the school parking lot into the class...all in the freezing cold. And then tuesdays, I have a Life in Art class studying Diane Arbus in the morning, and then photo class 1-6.
but today...wednesdays, I have no classes! I don't know what I'd do without my open wednesday.
It feels nice to relax for a few hours. aaahhhhh.

Last night, Kyle and I watched Penelope!
It wasn't the best, but had adorable moments and the set design of her bedroom was pretty much my dream room.
I especially love the little terrariums she had. I haven't made one of those since elementary school so I'm thinking it's about time to start up again!
